the dinner with the gaggle was fun, although both antonia and i were surprised to find a formal sit down shabbat dinner waiting for us when we arrived. i thought it was more casual. my mom played it off as casual. but whatever, i should have guessed. it was friday night afterall. and we rolled with it. it was nice for antonia to meet the people that for all intents and purposes are mine and my family's extended family. and the dance was amazing. it was the xenon dance troupe, and they performed to some really great contemporary music (tom waits, radiohead). i was really engaged, and thoroughly enjoyed the night on the town. saturday brought us to a bad movie (sweetland) and a nice chat with antonia's chicago friends (who maybe we'll see again if we make it there for new years -- there are talks of new years in chi town) and then date night of vietnamese soup and dancing. twas a good time until there was a little illness brought on by alcohol and who knows what else. but overall a very enjoyable evening. |
